New Clinical Assessment Rubric for Practicum and Internship

Beginning in Fall 2010, the Counseling program is using a new Clinical Assessment Rubric to evaluate all school and clinical mental health counselor candidates enrolled in the practicum and internship courses.  This new assessment rubric will be completed by the university instructors for the above courses at the end of the semester.  The same rubric also will be completed by the clinical site supervisor for the above courses at the end of the semester.

All candidates and university instructors will find the new assessment rubric in Taskstream, and university instructors will complete the assessment using Taskstream.  Candidates (RU students) do not need to do anything to activate the assessment, and they will see the assessment rubric when they click on the practicum or internship course listed in Taskstream.  The evaluation completed by their instructors will be visible to them within Taskstream after it is completed.

At the end of each course, all clinical site supervisors will receive a link to the new Clinical Assessment Rubric by email.  In order to complete the assessment, clinical site supervisors will need to know their counselor candidate's Roosevelt University ID# and the campus where he or she studies. In addition, clinical site supervisors will need to provide a reliable email address to their counselor candidate and the university instructor.  All clinical site supervisors should print out a copy of their evaluation before they click "submit."  The printed copy of the evaluation should be kept for back-up documentation, and may be shared with the counselor candidate as necessary or desired.

Comments and questions about the new assessment rubric and the procedures outlined above may be directed to Tom Philion, Associate Dean of the College of Education, at tphilion@roosevelt.edu or 312-853-4783.

Assessment of Professional Dispositions

All counselor candidates enrolled in the College of Education are expected to demonstrate the professional dispositions articulated in the conceptual framework of the College of Education and by the state of Illinois and professional organizations. A new policy and procedures have been developed to ensure timely and consistent assessment of the professional dispositions valued by Roosevelt University's College of Education. For more information about the assessment policy and procedures, and what you need to do on Taskstream to activate the assessment process, please visit the COE Dispositions blog.

Please note that all counselor candidates must activate the Dispositions DRF on Taskstream by the first seminar meeting. Please see the COE Dispositions blog for more information and a video about how to do this.

New Mandated Reporting Training and Form Completion

All Roosevelt University counselor candidates are required to complete an online training course for mandated reporters by the time of the first meeting of their practicum or internship.  This requirement applies to both school and clinical mental health counselor candidates.

The required training includes:

A pre-training assessment (13 multiple-choice questions)
60-90 minutes of self-paced interactive training
A post-training assessment (13 multiple-choice questions)
A Certificate of Completion (which must be printed at time of completion)

Upon completion of the training, turn in your Certificate of Completion and a signed Acknowledgement of Mandated Reporter Status Form to your university instructor. Please staple your forms together. Your university instructor will forward your signed and stapled forms to the Office of Field Placement, for batch mailing to the Office of the Director of DCFS, as required by state rule.  A copy of all submitted forms will be placed in your advising file.

University instructors should turn in ALL signed and stapled forms at one time to either Monica Kielar on the Schaumburg campus, or Dana Blanton on the Chicago campus.

Beginning in Spring 2011, this required training will take place within CHS 426, the Pre-practicum.
